Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him. 

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister's recent death.

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it's unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the 'natural wonders' of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It's only with Violet that Finch can be himself - a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who's not such a freak after all. And it's only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet's world grows, Finch's begins to shrink.

Is today a good day to die?

Ich weiß nicht genau, warum ich mich nach fast einem halben Jahr dazu entschieden habe, dieses Buch ausgerechnet jetzt in die Hand zu nehmen. Als es am Anfang des Jahres erschienen sind, waren ja sehr viele Leute wirklich begeistert von der Geschichte und deswegen habe ich es mir auch gekauft. Mittlerweile wurde es bei Goodreads auch als eins der besten Büchern des Jahres ausgezeichnet.
Trotzdem muss ich zugeben, dass ich keine allzu hohen Erwartungen hatte, was diese Geschichte angeht. Ich meine mich zu erinnern, dass das Buch jemand mit TFIOS verglichen hat und so was mag ich irgendwie nie besonders gerne.
Die Geschichte hat mir gut gefallen, aber sie hat mich eben nicht total von den Socken gehauen, wie sie das bei manch anderen getan hat. Ich fand das Ende auch nicht wirklich schockierend oder traurig, sondern hatte es irgendwie schon von Anfang an so erwartet. Ich mochte zwar den Schreibstil und die Charaktere waren mir auch recht sympathisch, aber das war es auch schon. Leider hat es mich sonst ein bisschen enttäuscht.
